Behind a five game winning steak
full of dramatic five set wins, the boys’
volleyball team has quietly strung together
a quality season.
The Hawks have notched five-set
wins over Patrick Henry, Midlothian,
and Glen Allen.
“I think we’ve had an easier part
of our schedule come through, but we
have been playing well together and I
think that’s going to keep improving,”
outside hitter John Atwood said. “We
will keep playing better and better
together and as the season progresses
we should still keep improving; I’m
looking forward to a good season.”
Atwood admitted that there is
plenty of room for improvement.
“I think we need to just work better
as a team and work harder in practice,”
Team unity is something that has
contributed in large part to the success
of the team.
“We are executing as a team, we
walk on that court not as six different
people, but as one whole team,”
junior middle Lee Olenyik said.
Atwood went out with a seasonending
injury on the final point
against Glen Allen, so the Hawks will
look to senior Drew Hazelgrove to
lead them into postseason play.
